Avanti MERMAID Research Accepted at IEEE ISC2 2026

Research using Avanti's MERMAID system to compare traffic and air quality data across the United States, Denmark, and Japan has been accepted for presentation at IEEE ISC2 2026 in Porto.

We are pleased to announce that a research paper using MERMAID, Avanti R&D’s AI traffic and environmental sensing system, has been accepted for presentation at the 12th IEEE International Smart Cities Conference, ISC2 2026.

The study compares traffic and air quality data collected in three cities with distinct climates and traffic environments: Torrance, California; Albertslund, Denmark; and Kagoshima, Japan. Because every dataset was collected using the same MERMAID system, the research team could examine patterns shared across the cities alongside the differences unique to each location.

This research was conducted with The University of Electro-Communications. The paper will be presented in the workshop “Towards Climate-Neutral Cities: Research, Innovation and International Cooperation.” The workshop brings together research on urban decarbonization, air quality, sustainable mobility, and climate resilience.

ISC2 is the annual flagship conference of the IEEE Smart Cities Technical Community. Submissions undergo a rigorous single-blind peer review process. The 2026 conference will take place in Porto, Portugal, from October 27 to 30.

Avanti CEO Go Yuasa will present the paper in person. If you will be at ISC2 2026, please say hello.
